Anyone know of an affordable home theater system with wireless rear speakers?

Question by andrewfiero: Anyone know of an affordable home theater system with wireless rear speakers?
Long story short, I’m looking for a surround sound system with wireless rear speakers because I lease an apartment and don’t want to drill holes to hide the wiring from the front to the back of the room.

I know of some systems that have wireless rear speakers, but the cheapest one I’ve seen was a BOSE system for ,499 which is a bit much for an apartment. I don’t need it to be that powerful. I’ve got other tenants to contend with.

Any suggestions would be great.

Question by IZitall: Can you recommend a wireless home theater system?
I am looking for a wireless Home theater system – not necessarily entirely wireless, but I want to be able to listen to music in couple of rooms at the same time without having to use wires to those rooms. Looking within the 0-0 range. Can any of you recommend a good Home theater system in this price range? Please give me the model number or names. Thanks.

Some HTS provide a wireless output for the two rear speakers, to avoid long cables, since they are placed far from the A/V receiver.
I’m not aware of a 5.1 system that is wireless for its five+1 speakers.
A company called Terk (owned by Audiovox) makes transmitters for what you need.

You can use the WAHT-SA10 Wireless Surround Speaker Unit to get the audio signals to the back of the room. Performance is …. okay….

You would be better off to find a way to get the wires back there. Like through the attic or under the baseboard around the room. Getting wire to the front speakers and monitor is pretty easy if the electronics are located on the same wall.

No, this is simply because speaker systems do not work at line level on the output end.

What can I buy to turn a old home theater system into a wireless home theater system without give up sound?

Posted in General with tags , , , , , , , , on August 3, 2010 by unlimitedtechsupport

Question by Phillip R: What can I buy to turn a old home theater system into a wireless home theater system without give up sound?
I just bought a new receiver about a year or two ago and it does not have wireless capability. I know there are things out on the market that can fix this, BUT I just don’t know which is the best for sound quality without giving up a fortune.
What about just trying to get the rear speaker wireless?

No real solution for wireless all around. You would need wireless speakers and transmitters on 5 or 6 different channels. Wireless speakers are expensive because each one has to have a transmitter, receiver and amplifier for each channel. Even the best wireless speakers can’t come close in quality to many very modestly priced wired speakers. The other thing to consider is that you would be wasting the amplifier that is in your receiver

is it wired. or can i put the speakers everywhere if they are wireless

This comes directly from the link you provided:

“The HT-BD1250 is “wireless rear speaker ready,” meaning that you need to purchase the additional SWA-4000 accessory to enable wireless rear speaker functionality. Like virtually all wireless speaker systems, you still need to run speaker wires from the SWA-4000 to your rear speakers, but at least you won’t have to run speaker wires from the front of your home theater to the back. (We did not have the SWA-4000 on hand, so we were not able to test this functionality.) ”

So no it’s not wireless. If it is it will say so. It’s a selling point…

Q&A: Is there a completely wireless surround sound, home theater, system on the market?

Weather or not there is would be a moot point, because wireless speakers are a tremendously bad idea!
1) If the speakers ARE truly wireless, then you need to constantly feed batteries to each speaker to power the individual amplifiers, at GREAT eventual cost to you!
2) If they are externally powered, then they need to be plugged in, so there goes your “completely wireless” system to begin with.
3) Have you ever talked on a cordless phone while walking through the house, only to find the 1 spot where the sound quality dropped dramatically? Well, wireless speakers run on the same frequencies and the more signals you flood your house with, the more likely you are to create frequency interference, thus, poor sound quality.
4) Wireless signals are normally frequency clipped (highs and lows eliminated) to save bandwidth, which makes for a very efficient transmission of signals, but very poor audio quality……

I could go on and on. but the simple answer is, I am sure there are “completely wireless home theater systems” out there, but you will NOT be pleased with them, even the BEST quality system will be inferior to a moderate quality wired system!

Hope this helps you make a decision!
Josh W.
