Home Theater Systems with Pandora and Netflix capabilities?

Posted in General with tags , , , , , on August 8, 2010 by unlimitedtechsupport

Question by ejlfflr: Home Theater Systems with Pandora and Netflix capabilities?
My wife and I have just bough an LG Home Theater System to match our new LG flat screen. The system has Pandora and Netflix hookups for an Ethernet connection. However, we have a broadband connection through our cable company. How do I hook these features up to my router? I will have to run the cord from the master bedroom to the living room and I do not know what type of cords or equipment I will need to make these features work? Please when talking tech. terms, treat me like I am a 2 year old.

Best answer:

Answer by McLovin
Buy a ethernet cord and hook it up to one of the ports on your router. It will just look kind of weird having a cord from your bedroom to the living room so you should move the router to whichever room the Home Theater is in.

I am looking to install two (2) home theater systems in my house?

Posted in General with tags , , , , , on August 3, 2010 by unlimitedtechsupport

Question by mike s: I am looking to install two (2) home theater systems in my house?
YThe first system will be in a basement in which the room is about a 20 X 20. This is strickly for the kids use. ( so that when they have friends over they can leave me alone )

I am wondering if a all in one box set like a 5.1 system would be good as it is not the main area of entertainment. If so what would be a good brand?

The next system I would like to put in my living room and would like to build a system with speakers anda reciever etc. All the walls are open now so i can run wire very easily in all the walls. I am not up to date on all the current terms and technology but I want a decent system without paying ,000 for it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer by Grumpy Mac
For the basement – look onto some of the Onkyo systems. The better ones have separate receiver, DVD player and a self-powered sub. This allows you to swap out parts and upgrade parts.

Upstairs:

Run in-wall or CL3 rated speaker wire. Spools of this can be bought from http://www.partsexpress.com. Use 12 ga. Pull enough wire to create a un-broken run. Run the wires through electrical outlet box’s and buy blank wall plates and drill holes. You can replace these with Decora wall plates and binding posts later.

Run wire for a 7.1 system even if you only plan on a 5.1 system.

Run ordinary CATV coax to the corner of the 2 longest un-broken walls for a self-powered sub.

Make sure to run Telephone and Cat6 network cable to behind your rack. Modern BluRay players, Sat receivers and Game systems all want internet connections these days.

Run Dual HDMI cables to the TV from where you put your equipment. Buy long cables from http://www.bluejeanscables.com. You might also want to run some HD rated component cables as well. BlueJeans again.

Equipment:

Go for one of the higher end Onkyo Receivers.

Go for a Dish Network 722 receiver/DVR

Go for a Samsung BluRay player with the built-in Netflix player.

Buy a SVS Subwoofer.

Buy a speaker system from a REAL speaker company – one who lives or dies based on how good their speakers are. Energy, Polk, Definitive Technology, Boston, Paradigym, etc. All are good.

Buy a Logitech Harmony universal remote.

Go to Home Theater Forum or AVS and read about other members theaters. You will learn a lot.

Can I replace a home theater system's satellite speaker?

Posted in General with tags , , , , , on August 3, 2010 by unlimitedtechsupport

Question by Jago: Can I replace a home theater system’s satellite speaker?
Unfortunately, one of my mother’s satellite speakers on her Jensen JHT525 5.1 theater system has static in its sound. I tried the speaker on all the channels to confirm that it is indeed the speaker and not the cables, making me believe that the voice coil is blown. Is it possible to buy the same satellite speaker? So far the only way I can do it is to buy the same system again and use one of its satellites, but then my mom will be stuck with an extra 4.1 system she really doesn’t need. If that’s the only way, oh well. Thanks, and happy holidays!!

i bet you could call the company and see if its protected under any warranty..and if its not, well just pay for the one new speaker, or for its repair.

In this age of digital music, how do people set up home theatre systems?

Posted in General with tags , , , , , , on August 3, 2010 by unlimitedtechsupport

Question by strilby: In this age of digital music, how do people set up home theatre systems?
I want to be able to listen to my ipod as well as TV, DVDS, etc through a system in my home, I don’t have extremely high expectations or budget. I just want something that will sound good to the average person at a medium-to-loud volume. What is most important? What makes a good speaker, a good receiver, etc? I have tried asking in electronics stores; they just want to sell me the most expensive items.

http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater-systems/samsung-ht-bd1250/4505-6740_7-33488076.html?tag=rnav

is it wired. or can i put the speakers everywhere if they are wireless

Answer by 18 gibbs 20
This comes directly from the link you provided:

“The HT-BD1250 is “wireless rear speaker ready,” meaning that you need to purchase the additional SWA-4000 accessory to enable wireless rear speaker functionality. Like virtually all wireless speaker systems, you still need to run speaker wires from the SWA-4000 to your rear speakers, but at least you won’t have to run speaker wires from the front of your home theater to the back. (We did not have the SWA-4000 on hand, so we were not able to test this functionality.) ”

So no it’s not wireless. If it is it will say so. It’s a selling point…
