Does any speaker wire work to connect a rear speaker in a home theater system?

Posted in General with tags , , , , , , , on September 11, 2010 by unlimitedtechsupport

Question by Grant J: Does any speaker wire work to connect a rear speaker in a home theater system?
I just got a new home theater system, an LG LHT854. The wire leading to one of the rear speakers is a bit short. It disconnects at both ends. I was wondering if I can just buy any standard speaker wire of the same gauge and connect it instead? What will this do to the sound quality, etc.? If this is bad, what else might you suggest for me to get the wire to the rear speaker discretely without having to go spend a bunch of money?

Any speaker wire would work the guage doesn’t matter for the small rear speakers guage only makes a difference if you have big speakers. Get long speaker cables any guage and run it along the edges of the room and if you have it hanging on the wall get some thumb tacks and pin the wires straight downwards towards the floor and around the edges. They sell plastic wire covers for the walls for cheap like 10 bucks for a set at stores like Wal Mart and they have them in multiple colors and lengths

I have recently purchased an outdoor rock speaker for my patio and I am trying to hook it up to my reciever but there are no more speaker connections. My Sony receiver is already connected to my home theater system which has 6 speakers with no more connections left to hook up this rock speaker. I have purchased a speaker selector but can’t figure out how to hook everything up? The speaker selector that I have purchase is from Radio Shack. Any advice would be great!

Is purchasing a HIGH LOW RCA CONVERTER HI-LOW ADAPTER the way to go?

If your DSP is within reach of your multi room controller, many MRA controllers have a RCA loop out for each zone, that will give you zone output directly. A high to low converter (russound makes one) will work but they do compromise quality.

Question by photojunky9: What do I need to use a 5.1 surround sound speaker system?
I recent got a 5.1 surround sound speaker system, and the main tower that controls everything is kinda busted to put it simply. What do I need to replace that head unit? Do I need a Home Theater Receiver to manage the different audio sources?

I want to be able to connect my computer, have a radio reciver , CD player, tv and other connections such as that.

The wires are standard speaker cables, with no adapter on the end, merely the stripped wire.

You’ll need an amplifier, which your tuner/cd player/pc will plug into as well.

What audio signals are output by the center channel speaker in a home theater system?

Posted in General with tags , , , , , , , , on August 3, 2010 by unlimitedtechsupport

Question by nipsy3: What audio signals are output by the center channel speaker in a home theater system?
The reason I’m asking, is that I’m not sure if mine is working. Theres some static, but no real audio. I’m sure it’s wired correctly. Will it only pass a certain frequency band at certain times, like other surround sound speakers or a sub? Is that why I’m not hearing anything when I check?

Mostly the dialogue from a movie will come from the center channel. this will also contain other parts of a movie, but mostly dialogue.

Can I replace a home theater system's satellite speaker?

Posted in General with tags , , , , , on August 3, 2010 by unlimitedtechsupport

Question by Jago: Can I replace a home theater system’s satellite speaker?
Unfortunately, one of my mother’s satellite speakers on her Jensen JHT525 5.1 theater system has static in its sound. I tried the speaker on all the channels to confirm that it is indeed the speaker and not the cables, making me believe that the voice coil is blown. Is it possible to buy the same satellite speaker? So far the only way I can do it is to buy the same system again and use one of its satellites, but then my mom will be stuck with an extra 4.1 system she really doesn’t need. If that’s the only way, oh well. Thanks, and happy holidays!!

i bet you could call the company and see if its protected under any warranty..and if its not, well just pay for the one new speaker, or for its repair.

Is there a home theater speaker system that sounds just as amazing as Bose but at a cheaper price?

Question by Andrew B: Is there a home theater speaker system that sounds just as amazing as Bose but at a cheaper price?
I have always wanted a Bose anything because I love the quality and sound from everything they have done. I know they can be a bit spendy. If there are some home theater speakers from other well known and reliable brands that work just as well I am definitely all ears. I am just in the market of buying a really great speaker system!

is it ok to add more length to speaker wire for a surround sound home theater system?

Question by David: is it ok to add more length to speaker wire for a surround sound home theater system?
I have a RCA DVD home theather system and with the size of my room i don’t have enough lenght to run the cables so no one trips over them.

Yes, but I wouldn’t just twist more wire onto the original piece though. It is better if it is all in one piece. I would buy some cheap wire from Radio Shack or Walmart. They use to sell 50ft for around -15. And yes, if you do make the wires REALLY long –say over 100ft you can get some delays and problems.
