Question by soulweaponry: How do i position my 5.1 surround sound speakers?
Totally new to surround sound and am picking up a 5.1 system next week. How do i position all the speakers in my living room? I’m using an hd projector position behind my couch btw

Your center channel should be right under or over your TV, front speakers should be equal distance from the TV on each side, rear speakers should be (close to) equal distance on either side of where you will be sitting (your couch) and also pointed towards the TV to keep all the sound travelling to the same general area, and your sub woofer should be positioned on the floor off to the side but still pointing towards where you will be sitting. Have a look at this diagram to help explain better:

I have a 5.1 surround sound system, but I am moving into a house with a Tile living room floor. What do I do?

Question by Bob S: I have a 5.1 surround sound system, but I am moving into a house with a Tile living room floor. What do I do?
The home is prewired for surround sound through ceiling speaker mounts but my subwoofer would be so far away from the hookup that I don’t want wires running on the floor. Is a bose 3 2 1 II series a good replacement since there are no wires running to the back of the system? Any other ideas on how to fix this problem?

Yeah, sounds like your whole system will be pretty much useless. You should just send me your 5.1 system and I’ll take care of it…;)

You might have included software that it has to go with, or maybe you should check the windows volume control. Its on the bottom right corner of the screen next to the clock.

Question by Rob: How does 5.1 Surround Sound transmit through just 2 cables?
I’m looking at buying a 5.1 Surround Sound System to connect from my Xbox 360, but my Xbox 360 has 2 Phono output cables (red and white). The Sound Systems I’ve looked at have 2 Phono input cables (red and white).

How can the 5 channels of sound needed for 5.1 transmit through just 2 cables?

Best answer:

Answer by UnknownX
It doesn’t. Don’t let your ears deceive you. The only way to get 5.1 sound is through 5 pairs of red and whites or HDMI cable through a Dolby/DTS receiver.

Are all blu ray players set up to have 5.1 surround sound speakers attached?

Question by JC: Are all blu ray players set up to have 5.1 surround sound speakers attached?
I have a blu ray dvd player and would like to buy 5.1 surround sound speakers to go with it. Will it be equipped with decoder to support 5.1 surround sound speakers or not.

Best answer:

Answer by agb90spruce
Not directly. You will need the speakers and some type of surround amplifier/receiver … not just the speakers. That said, all Blu-ray players have built in 5.1 dolby digital decoders (and many have advanced decoders for 7.1 formats increasingly used on Blu-ray (but not DVD) disks).

I have a 50″ Samsung plasma, and wondering how to connect 5.1 surround sound to the high definition channels so that when I am watching movies on tv they can be in 5.1 surround sound?
I havent bought any speakers for the tv yet or anything, all I have is a Samsung 50″ Plasma PS50C9 – I want to buy speakers to connect to the tv so I can watch the HD channels with surround sound.

You will need a Dolby Digital capable receiver. If your TV has a HD Tuner built in, it should also have a ‘Digital Audio Out’ for the receiver. This is usually color coded ‘orange’ This output would then be connected to the receiver’s ‘HD TV Digital Input’. This signal is then sent to the 5 speakers, and the sub-woofer.
I really need to know what kind of equipment you already have to tell you how to connect it properly.
